Andreea Mateescu Stone Lithography - Sundays in May

This planographic printmaking process does magic with grease and water and is known to be challenging to master. The workshop will teach you the basics of the ‘chemische druckerei’ invented by Alois Senefelder and will allow you to continue to explore stone lithography by yourself in the studio after completion.
You’ll be guided through the basics of hand graining the stone, drawing with special lithographic crayons and pencils, the etching stages in order to fix the drawing in your stone and printing on paper in black ink with the use of a classic lithographic press. The delicacy and expressive character of the produced lines and surfaces are stunning; something that can’t be achieved by any other traditional printmaking technique.

Andreea Mateescu is a printmaker based in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 2017, she received her
BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Before this, she studied fine arts at Capilano
University. In 2021, she attended the world-renowned Tamarind Institute of Fine Art Lithography in
Albuquerque, New Mexico where she completed the two-part intensive Printer Training Program,
and received her certification as a Tamarind collaborative printer.
