Gillian Armitage’s artistic practice includes printmaking, painting, installation, and sculpture. She attended Kingston-upon-Hull College of Art in Yorkshire, England, and Western Washington University in the United States, before emigrating to Canada in 1974. Motivated by significant changes in her life, Armitage often creates autobiographical works in series, Some of these subjects include her experiences in Japan, her emigration to Canada, and a diagnosis of lymphoma. Armitage has exhibited her artwork around the world, including at Malaspina Printmakers, the Burnaby Art Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, and the Nagasaki Peace Museum. She previously served as the president of Malaspina Printmakers.
